Technology Investments to Support Growth and Survive a Hurricane: Prisma Health's Award-Winning IT Infrastructure Improvement Project

Prisma Health has been selected as the winner of ECRI's 19th Health Technology Excellence Award for its comprehensive, multilayered approach to improving the organization’s technology infrastructure. The project—initiated to support the organization’s expansion efforts, to improve workflow for frontline healthcare providers, and to safeguard care in the event of a catastrophic outage—quickly proved its worth. In September 2024, soon after aspects of the project had been completed, Hurricane Helene caused widespread devastation across the region, putting the health system to the test. Thanks to the team’s proactive, systems-based efforts combining people, processes, and technology, Prisma Health was able to continue providing care at a time when other organizations were experiencing major outages.
