ECRI Leaders Named Among Becker’s Patient Safety Experts to Know

ECRI is proud to announce that President and CEO Marcus Schabacker, MD, PhD, and Shannon Davila, Executive Director of Total Systems Safety, have been named to the Becker’s Hospital Review 2025 list of Patient Safety Experts to Know.

The annual list recognizes leaders across the U.S. who are driving meaningful improvements in care quality, reducing patient harm, and shaping the future of healthcare safety. This year’s honorees include executives from leading health systems, patient advocacy groups, federal agencies, and national quality organizations.

Marcus Schabacker, MD, PhD

Dr. Schabacker leads ECRI’s global mission to advance healthcare safety through data-driven insights, smart system design, human factors engineering, and cultural transformation for the workforce. Under his leadership, ECRI has expanded to serve more than 70 countries. Two out of three healthcare providers in the U.S. and more worldwide rely on ECRI's expertise. Shannon Davila, MSN, RN, CPPS, CIC, CPHQ, FAPIC

Shannon Davila leads one of the nation’s largest patient safety organizations – the ECRI and ISMP PSO – and she pioneered ECRI’s total systems safety program to prevent patient harm.  Under her leadership, ECRI’s database of safety incidents has grown to the largest of its kind in the industry – with over 7 million events analyzed by ECRI. In 2024, she led a falls prevention collaborative involving 40 hospitals; spearheaded ECRI’s focus on preventing medical gaslighting; and launched the SALUTE program to improve care for veterans.
